Mac is deeply broody and has a darkness around him that's not entirely malicious, but calming. Stella on the other hand seems to be the opposite. She might not go around planting flowers, but she seems to have embraced life. In my opinion, she seems to be the only one who can get Mac to stop brooding. I love their relationship. I'm all for the friendship aspect and hopefully if nothing fails, they'll continue and develop something much more meaningful.
